Point Fighting Glove Guide – Maximum Speed and Protection on the Tatami

Point Fighting (formerly known as Semi-Contact) is one of the fastest and most technical disciplines of kickboxing, where the focus is on fast, explosive strikes and immediate scoring. The structure of a Point Fighting glove (or open-palm kickboxing glove) differs fundamentally from traditional closed boxing gloves: it features an open palm design that allows for quick hand opening, blocking, and catching, while a thick layer of foam protects the back of the hand and the knuckle joints.

Why is the Design of Point Fighting Gloves Special?

Due to the pace of Point Fighting matches, the glove must meet two critical expectations: it must be featherlight for lightning-fast punches and have outstanding shock absorption to protect the athletes' physical well-being.

Open palm and finger loop system: Provides greater freedom of movement for the hand, making blocking and defense easier.
Extra backhand and knuckle padding: Thick padding placed at the knuckles and back of the hand absorbs the force of impact.
Wrist support and elastication: The wide Velcro strap stabilizes the wrist joint, preventing sprains resulting from sudden impacts.

Point Fighting Gloves vs. Traditional Boxing Gloves

Feature	Point Fighting Gloves	Traditional Boxing Gloves
Palm Design	Open palm with elastic finger anchors	Closed palm with attached thumb
Primary Purpose	Lightning-fast scoring, parrying, blocking	Absorbing powerful strikes, closed fist formation
Rule System	Point Fighting, Semi-contact, Taekwondo (ITF)	Boxing, Muay Thai, Kickboxing (Full-Contact / K-1)

How to Choose the Right Size?

1. WAKO Certification (For Competition)

If you participate in official domestic or international kickboxing competitions, it is essential to choose a WAKO approved model. Federation rules strictly regulate the blue or red color of the glove, the density of the padding, and the outer material.

2. Size Chart (Based on Hand Circumference)

Point Fighting gloves are manufactured in standard S, M, L, XL sizes. For the perfect fit, the width of the hand and the circumference of the knuckles are the deciding factors:

XS size: Child / Junior size (approx. up to 5–8 years old)
S size: For youths and women with smaller hands
M size: For average female and smaller male hands
L size: For average male hand size
XL size: For adults with larger hands

Maintenance and Care Tips

Post-workout ventilation: Immediately after training, open the Velcro and let them dry in a well-ventilated area.
Regular cleaning: Wipe the outer synthetic leather or leather surface with a damp, disinfectant wipe.
Protection of finger loops: Regularly check the condition of the elastic finger loops, and do not pull them too hard when putting the gloves on!
